SELECTED PAPERS FROM A CONFERENCE ON “STABILITY PROBLEMS IN STRUCTURAL MECHANICS”

In this connection, the question of the funda¬mental concepts of the theory of stability became of interest not only from the viewpoint of the logical completeness of the theory. The choice of the problem formulation (computational scheme) and the choice of the method of solution depend essentially on the content included in each particular case in the con¬cepts of stability and instability. The interpretation of the results and their application to actual structures depend also on this. Hence, it is seen that the question of the concept of stability in structural mechanics outgrows by far the scope of the purely logical, methodological or didactic problems.
