PROPOSED NEW PENETRAMETER DESIGNS WHICH PROVIDE FOR ALL NECESSARY RADIOGRAPHIC QUALITY LEVELS MONOGRAPH SERIES

Traditionally, at least in this country, penetrameters have been designed such that the penetrameter thickness is based on a percentagé of the material thickness of the item to be radiographed. This thickness has normally been set at 2 percent of the material through which the radi-ation must pass. In the past this design has worked out well. However, due to the vastly improved equipment and the development of finer grain films, it has now become possible to require better quality levels than were previously attainable and yet provide adequate provisions for less stringent quality levels when the highest quality is unnecessary.
