Investigation of Binderless Reverse Hybrid Propellant Systems

摘要

Several binderless reverse hybrid propellant systems were investigated theoretically and experimentally for their suitability as high performance systems. The systems were compared theoretically to a propellant with a measured density of 1.92 g/cc and a measured specific impulse of 260 lb-sec/lb. A binderless system comprised of a solid phase of ammonium perchlorate-lithium perchlorate eutectic reinforced with aluminum metal was selected for scale-up and development. The liquid phase of the system was hydrazine or a slurry of added fuel in hydrazine. The results of investigations in the areas of combustion research, safety and compatibility studies, process development, ignition, motor firings, and fuel slurry development are reported. (Author)
