THE ACCURACY OF COMPRESSION TESTING MACHINES AND OTHER FACTORS WHICH AFFECT THE ACCURACY OF CONCRETE STRENGTH TESTS

An account is given of a number of factors that can influence the results obtained from the test of the compressive strength of concrete. It is shown that quite small changes in procedure can give rise to appreciable variation in the apparent compressive strength of similar concrete test pieces. Before the results obtained by different laboratories can be compared with some degree of confidence, it is felt that a number of improvements in technique must be carried out.
