This work is concerned with an investigation of the propagation charac¬teristics of the helical transmission line at about 1300 Mc, the helix enclosing a low-pressure Hg-Ar discharge tube.nThe electrical length was measured by the resonance method. The attenuation and the change in electrical length were measured by the in¬sertion method, the double-path method being employed in the phase measurements. The intrinsic values were determined from the insertion values. The values of plasma conductivity and electron density, correspond¬ing to the discharge currents, were determined from cavity measurements according to Margenau's conductivity formula.nAn analysis of the accuracy of the double-path method indicated that the impedance-match requirements imposed on the devices used were more stringent than those in the customary technique of microwave power measurement.
