Large-size articles, such as drums, tanks, and pipes are best of all preserved by the method based on the use of the contact inhibitor, sodium nitrite.nSodium nitrite can be used also for the protection from corrosion with the water settling out of the oil, of the lower zone and bottoms of tanks filled with petroleum products and in operation.nThe processes of washing and protection of drums, tanks, and pipes with the aqueous sodium nitrite solution are fully mechanized and therefore are less labor consuming than the processes of protection with oils and greases. Moreover, in the protection of drums and movable tanks with sodium nitrite, the cost of materials is reduced approximately eight times in comparison with preservation with oils.
