THE LAMINAR BOUNDARY LAYER IN THE VICINITY OF A SUCTION SLOT

There have been many recent experiments designed to reduce fluid friction drag by maintaining a stable laminar flow. The interest in suction as as a means of controlling the growth of the laminar boundary layer has led to the investigation of the behavior of such a boundary layer in the vicinity of a discrete suction slot. In order to observe the effect of one such slot, detailed boundary layer profiles were measured at various stations upstream and downstream of a slot.nAn analysis based on the momentum integral equation seems inadequate based on the standard method of assuming a velocity function to satisfy only the first compatibility condition at the wall.
