Vibration Testing (General Guidance)

Most material is subject to forces which cause vibration. The source of the vibrating force may be internal, such as, a motor or other mechanical motion within the test item; or the source may be external as in the case of vibration produced during transportation by irregularities in road surfaces, joints in railroad tracks, aircraft engines, or rough seas. The document describes the various types of vibration, defines related terms, and introduces methods of measuring, recording and analyzing vibration data. (Author)
