THE EFFECT OF VARIATIONS IN INTERNAL POWER PATTERN ON COALITION FORMATION IN TETRADS.

The research reported by Dr. Shears was conducted some years ago at the University of Hawaii. Since a number of studies had dealt with coalition formation in triads, with interesting results, it was desirable to investigate the matter in larger groups. Dr. Shears undertook this step in her experiment with tetrads. The project proved to be very demanding and to involve a large variety of problems. She did not flinch at the magnitude of the job.nUnfortunately, there have been delays in publication of the results of Dr. Shears's research. I believe that interested persons should have access to this important work. Rather than awaiting more formal publication, therefore, this Report is issued for general distribution. It was a real pleasure to have been associated with Dr. Shears in her Ph.D. research and to express my conviction that it makes a very significant contribution to the literature on strategy and coalitions in small-group interaction.
