EXPLORATORY MEETING ON THE MAGNETIC TAPE RECORDING OF SEISMIC DATA

The main purpose of the meeting was to review design and performance of magnetic tape recorders currently in use for the VELA Program. Of central interest was a discussion of noise and distortion effects introduced by the recorders. For lack of a better term, a measure of recorder performance with regard to these effects is referred to as "dynamic range. An auxiliary purpose of the meeting was to survey facilities capable of obtaining, at teleseismic distances, good dynamic-range, high-frequency records of the forthcoming LONG SHOT test. This report summarizes the discussions of the meeting.
