摘要

In a previous study (1), swelling properties of hydrophilic gels (hydrogels) prepared by simultaneous cross-linking and polymerization of hydrophilic monomers have been reported. Results of the study indicate that when a three-dimensional network is prepared in a relatively poor solvent, the effect of the thermodynamic interaction of the solvent and the polymer is overwhelmingly greater than the effects due to other factors, such as the number of cross-links and the relative swelling of the polymer at the time of cross-linking (2) (3) (A) (B).
