Tubes of the Design I approach were modified in accordance with experimental evidence that indicated that the major electronic interaction took place near the vane tips. Wide band performance at good power and efficiency has been achieved with these tubes. Increased control electrode voltage range, reduced emitter back heating and consistent performance are the areas to be refined.
