摘要

The paper briefly describes the design and operation of a 1.5kw electron-beam floating-zone melting unit. Using this unit molybdenum single crystals 4mm in diam eter and 2to 5cm long were prepared,and the laboratory technique of preparing single crystals with controlled orientation was mastered. The molybdenum single crystals prepared showed no preferred orientation;microscopic examination disclosed a large number of terraces on the crystal surface (with step heights ranging from 0.000023to 0.00063cm),which were tentatively identified as evaporation terraces.
