A Dimensional Analysis of the Performance of Pneumatic Tires on Sand

The study reported herein had a dual purpose. First, it was intended to determine, for certain specific circumstances, a mathematical relation between the various pertinent tire and soil parameters and the parameters that describe the behavior of the pneumatic tire-soil system. In particular it was desired to identify the role played by the soil in terms of relatively simple measures of the pertinent soil properties. A second purpose was to demonstrate the applicability and usefulness of dimensional analysis in experimental studies of a tire-soil system. 9
