In addition to its potential use simply as a low cost means of transporting energy, a waveguide power system may be of intrinsic interest in connection with future applications of microwave power, industrial processing applications are already developing. In such industries as chemicals, foods, textiles, paper, and plywood, potential areas of use. If microwave energy can be obtained at sufficiently low cost, include such major markets as lighting and heating of living and working space and electrical transportation systems. An important question that needs to be answered, if any large scale transport of microwave power is to take place, is that of the relative cost of a microwave system in comparison with a conventional AC or DC system. The answer turns out to be critically dependent on the waveguide design and the degree of accuracy with which it can be built.
