摘要

In an attempt to determine the exact physiological changes that follow the administration of a lethal dose of snake venom, the following studies were carried out: One thousand eight hundred and sixty-four mice and two hundred and forty-seven dogs were injected with varying doses of venom and changes in EEG, heart rate, EKG, respiration and blood pressure followed until death. Results indicate that on a mg/kg basis, the lethal dose of venom for the dog is significantly less than that for the mouse and that the mechanism of death for most venoms is respiratory in nature.
