摘要

Dicarboxylic acids absorb in the infrared region below 700/cm. Their spectra depend on the physical state in which they are observed and the chemical structure between the carboxyl groups. The absorptivity from solution spectra decreases linearily with increasing number of carbon atoms from oxalic through glutaric acid. Substitution on the main carbon chain of the dicarboxylic acid and the presence of unsaturation in the chain increase the absorptivity. Presented are the spectra of some C2 to C5 carboxylic and dicarboxylic acids, esters, anhydrides, and diones in a mull and solutions.
