摘要

The six oceanographic patrols during January 1966-August 1966 mark the beginning of the time series investigation at Ocean Station VICTOR. The results indicated that heating of the surface layers occurred in April and persisted through August with the establishment of a seasonal thermocline in the upper 100 meters. The most prominent feature of the water column was zone of minimum salinity located between 300 and 800 meters. This salinity minimum represents the North Pacific Intermediate water which flows north along the coast of Japan as the Kuroshio Current and then due east as the Kuroshio Extention (Masuzawa, 1964). Analysis of the data indicated that, due to the presence of low salinity water in the upper 300 meters in January, an increase in the volume of Oyashio Current water in the area of VICTOR may possibly be inferred. The continued occupation of oceanographic stations on a time-series basis will allow definitive studies of the nature and magnitude of fluctuations in the temperature and salinity fields. (Author)
