Further studies on the generation of acoustic signals by an underwater electric discharge in water of zero salinity using an inverse pinch electrode geometry have been carried out. The previous semi-annual report showed how several of the most important physical parameters affect the acoustic intensity radiated. This report presents some results obtained with a high-speed framing camera and also the results obtained with an electrode assembly having a lower inductance than the electrode geometries previously reported upon. The acoustic intensity radiated by this new electrode configuration was found to be larger than that radiated by previous configurations tested. The experimental results obtained during the present study suggested the design of a capacitor-switch-electrode assembly which should improve the transfer of energy from the capacitor into the plasma. This new low-inductance system has been assembled and should be ready for testing shortly after completion of this report.
