Mycoplasma Pneumoniae: Complement-Fixing Antibody Titers at Birth

Results of this study indicate that antibodies to Mycoplasma pneumoniae can pass the placental barrier and are detectable at low levels in the serum of the newborn. An incidence of 10.9% of the serum of infants tested demonstrated a complement-fixing titer of 1:4 or higher. Longitudinal studies are in progress to determine the persistence of these antibodies and will be reported later. (Author)
