Design and Manufacture of Plastic Insulated Aluminum Conductor Telephone Cable

The paper reports on a development project for the express purpose of finding a substitute for copper for exchange area telephone cable. It was realized from the beginning that just designing and developing methods and procedures for manufacturing aluminum conductor cable would not be a solution. A complete package must be available. Besides cable manufacture, studies were made of how to install the cable, splice the conductors, terminate the conductors, join cable lengths together, locate and repair trouble, always using suitable mitigating techniques to keep the ogre 'corrosion' from destroying the project.
