INTERPERSONAL PERCEPTION AND PSYCHOLOGICAL ADJUSTMENT OF GROUP MEMBERS

During the past calendar year this project has been involved in three major sub-tasks. The first of these is the completion of a program of research designed to test methods of designing military units so that they will contribute to the adjustment of individual group members. The second sub-project is designed to identify individuals who will increase in adjustment as a function of experiencing successful interpersonal relationships in their units, and those who will increase in adjustment as a result of experiencing success in assigned group tasks. The third sub-project, which has been newly initiated, attempts to develop methods and principles for preventing and alleviating maladjustive responses of individuals operating in a strange culture. It aims to increase the effectiveness of individuals who are assigned to. work cooperatively with others who differ from them in cultural and linguistic background.
