EVALUATION OF REMOVABLE FILM CORROSION PREVENTIVES

This report covers the evaluation of some 12 pressure sensitive tapes and one strippable vinyl plastisol material for possible use as a removable film corrosion preventive material. The materials were tested for fungus resistance and adhesion as well as for their ability to protect metals from corrosion and weathering. The tape backings were of three types, i.e., paper, plastic and fabric.nAll materials were found to be fungus proof and the tapes were tack-free during adhesion testing.nA plastic backed tape provided the best combination of protection (accelerated weathering, corrosion and fungus resistance) and ease of removal of any of the tapes tested.nA weather resistant polyvinyl fluoride backed tape and the strippable vinyl plastisol were the two most corrosive materials tested.
