The rapid advances of recent years ID hypersonic aerodynamics have stimulated intense interest in problems dealing with flows of reacting gas mixtures in laminar and turbulent boundary layers. With practically no exceptions the published works (too numerous to mention here) hate presented numerical solutions of the governing equations subject to various appropriate boundary condi¬tions The majority of these papers dealt with flows of the similarity class, more recently, Such results were extended to cover nonsimilar flow situations, the solutions being obtained by means of various finite difference techniquesnWhile the numerical solutions are of great importance, they suffer from several definite drawbacks, not the least of which is the laborious computational procedure A more serious drawback is the inevitable lack of generality each solution is, in fact, bur a particular result valid only for a preselected set of conditions It is therefore impossible to assess the influence of the fundamental parameters on a given flow other than through various correlation formulae.
