Low-density polyethylene specimens were exposed to air to gamma radiation in order to produce polar oxide surface regions which generated polarization signals where subjected to intense shock compression. Shock velocities were obtained by polarization measurements, and Hugoniot points between 75 and 192 kilobars were established by graphical procedure. Measurements at 94 kilobars indicated were established by graphical procedure. Measurements at 94 kilobars indicated that radiation doses below 2.0 x 10 to the 8th power rads had negligible effect on the Hugoniot. (Author)
