Application of the solubility parameter concept to micelle and crystalline metal soap dispersions in low-polarity solvents can give some order to effects of the solvent in these systems. The ASTM dropping point temperature has been shown to be a function of solubility parameter, and it is proposed that dropping points can be estimated when solubility parameters are known. A new method for estimating the solubility parameter of an oil, based on its interaction with soap, has also been suggested.
