摘要

Cobaltous oxide has the NaCl structure above its Neel temperature of 291°K. Below this temperature it becomes tetragonal. Previous Mossbauer studies at atmospheric pressure of Co (Fe ) in this compound at several temperatures are consistent with this assignment. To our knowledge this compound has not been previously studied under high pressure, although a study of the similar antiferromagnet MnO indicates a considerable increase of the Neel temperature with pressure. One thus expects a room temperature Mossbauer study of CoO under high pressures to undergo a marked magnetic transition.
