A Survey of Available Information Relative to Achieving Ultimate Antenna Bandwidths

This report is concerned with a survey of the presently available literature concerning broadband antennas, in order to determine the capabilities and the limitations of the various techniques which have been investigated. In the first part the present state of the theory of frequency independent antennas is discussed. The experimental work on these structures is then briefly reviewed. In Section II, a parallel treatment is made for log periodic antennas. Section III is mainly concerned with the theoretical question of the bandwidth limitation of an antenna 'small' in terms of wavelength. (Author)
