Serum Lipids and Blood Ketones During Progressive Hyperthermia

Serum total lipid and total fatty acids and blood acetone-acetoacetate and beta-hydroxybutyrate were determined in cats at normal body temperature (Tr) and Tr's of 40C., 42C., and 44C. Total lipid and total fatty acids decreased with increased body temperature. Ketones did not change significantly. It is suggested the decrease in serum fats may result, in part, from increases that occur in blood lactates during hyperthermia. (Author)
