摘要

Combining high-strength refractory wires and a ductile matrix alloy to produce an improved high-temperature composite material could provide greater capability for existing alloys. This program evaluated processing parameters required to produce metal-wire, metal-matrix (titanium- or nickel-alloy) composites by powder metallurgy fabrication methods. Compatibility studies correlated with processing and mechanical tests were used to select the matrix and wire materials. The program demonstrated the principle that refractory wires (NF tungsten or TZM molybdenum) reinforced nickel and titanium alloys at elevated temperatures. (Author)
