摘要

Two methods of representing a signal were evaluated. The two representations to be compared are (a) the principal component representation,and (b) the discrete orthogonal exponential representation. In the former,the signal is projected onto a linear space whose basis elements are orthogonal to one another. This basis is chosen so as to minimize the average squared error remaining after each component is chosen. The second method,first described by Young and Huggins,is the representation of the signal on a vector space whose elements are orthogonal discrete time exponentials. It is assumed that the signal being processed is one member of a predetermined signal class;this signal class defines the dimensionality and parameters needed to describe the two vector spaces.
