Procedures were developed for the preparation of synthetic fallout with which to study the availability of strontium. Mineral particles were tagged with Sr-85 and heated to a series of temperatures including 1500C. The effect of these thermal treatments on the availability of strontium was evaluated by leaching in 0.1N HCl. Surface adsorption effects were measured on particles that were not heated. The reproducibility of the results obtained by those procedures was tested by preparing batches of synthetic fallout with specified properties for other OCD studies. (Author)
