The Incidence of Recession in Young Males: Relationship to Gingival and Plaque Scores

Five hundred ninety-two males, with a mean age of 19.5 years were examined for gingival health status, presence and extent of plaque, and presence of gingival recession; 164 (27.7%) of them showed recession in at lease one segment of the mouth. Segments 1 and 3 were more susceptible to gingival recession than the other four segments. The mean segment gingival and plaque scores for the subjects with recession in each of these two segments were significantly lower than the mean scores for subjects without recession. The full mouth mean gingival and plaque scores for the subjects with recession, in any area of the mouth, were significantly lower than the same scores for the subjects with no recession. (Author)
