摘要

Model-independent consequences of the hypothesis that portions of the magnetosphere behind the bow shock are in a state of continual homogeneous turbulence are discussed. It is shown that such a hypothesis leads to a law governing the power spectra of magnetosheath and magnetosphere main phase fluctuations, and this is in agreement with experiment. The long life of main phase fluctuations is shown to follow from a theorem on the permanence of the largest eddies. Consideration is given to the theory that islands of energetic electron fluxes may be caused by electron acceleration by low-frequency, small-amplitude magnetosonic waves in a turbulent environment. Finally, the dominance of 30 to 40-minute fluctuations in the magnetosheath, geomagnetic storm main phase, the shock front, and the magnetophase emphasizes the importance of experimental cross-correlation study of particles and fields phenomena.
