As one of the aims in research (3) was to investigate the stability of the head-flow characteristic shape, the instability coefficient, defined as the dip in head from peak to trough as a fraction of peak head in the region of blade stall, is compared with blade loading coefficients derived for the various machines.nPressure and velocity measurements determined at intermediate stations through¬out a fan and pump are also presented.nThe paper concludes with research currently being carried out at NEL on this type of machine which will lead to improvement in stator vane design and a better prediction of annulus loss.
