摘要

The effects of welding process on the susceptibility to weld decay of AISI type 304 stainless steel have been studied using a potentiostatic technique. Susceptibility to weld decay has been correlated with microstructure, and it has been concluded that modern low carbon materials (S 0.06% C) are unlikely to suffer weld decay under normal service conditions. Under the conditions of the experiments described the processes may be listed in order of increasing tendency to induce weld decay:electron beam, TIG, friction, manual metal arc, MIG and plasma welding.
