Phytoplankton from Tvaren a Bay of the Baltic, 1961-1963

The investigation of the qualitative and quantitative composition of the phytoplankton in Tavern (Locality 7), a bay of the Baltic, was carried out during the period April 1961 to October 1963. Comprehensive data exist concerning physical and chemical conditions;some of them are included in this paper. A low number of species occur in brackish water;most of them belong to the groups Diatomite and Peritonea. The total volumes of phytoplankton are low and show peaks only in spring, with some genera, Sceletonema, Thalassiosira and Gonyaulax, predominating. The vertical and seasonal distribution of different groups is discussed.
