摘要

Based on the available experimental results the various proposed models used to explain the plastic behavior of crystalline solids in these regions were critically evaluated. These models include the Frank-Read source mechanism, the Koehler multiple-cross-glide mechanism, the Peierls-Nabarro stress, the pinning model, the intersection model and the micro-creep mechanism. Generally, the various results in the microstrain region were explained in terms of these models with the exception of the micro-creep mechanism which has been used to explain initial yielding phenomena in the millimicrostrain region. The remainder of this report centers on the research conducted by the principal investigator on the millimicroplastic burst behavior of zinc monocrystals (1) and on initial dislocation multiplication in shock loaded copper single crystals (2) during the specified grant period.
