Analysis of Infrared Absorption Spectra of Asymmetric Molecules

Theoretical expressions for centrifugal distortion in planar asymmetric molecules of the type non-linear XYX, and their relationship to more fundamental molecular parameters were developed. A modified contact transformation was applied to the Hamiltonian to arrive at the form appropriate when there is an accidental near-degeneracy between the vibrational states. Spectra of H2S, and of several isotopes of H2Se, and of H2Te were obtained and analysed to yield values of numerous molecular parameters for these molecules. (Author)
