Automated Determination of Pyridinium Aldoximes in Biological Fluids

A rapid and accurate method for analyzing pyridinium oximes in plasma, urine, and whole blood is described. The method is completely automated and requires small sample volumes. Concentrations of oximes ranging from 3 to 120 micro eq/1 in biological fluids can be determined at a rate of 40/hour. The average variation of the oxime concentrations used to establish calibration curves was determined by the ratio of the standard deviation to the mean. Plasma and albumin increase the transfer rate of the oximes through the dialyzing membrane. Theoretical considerations are presented in an attempt to explain this phenomenon. (Author)
