The wetting of the solid constituents of plastic propellant, ammonium perchlorate and aluminum, by the liquid constituents, polyisobutylene and S101 surfactant, has been investigated by contact angle measurements at 25C. With both solids, variable contact angles were obtained with S101 and its individual liquid components. This lack of reproducibility was attributed to the existence of firmly bound layers of moisture on the solid surfaces. The spreading of liquid polyisobutylenes on the solid surfaces was found to be dependent on both surface tension and molecular weight. (Author)
