摘要

Previous tests showed that tubular specimens of alloy Ti/6Al/4V tested in torsion began to creep as a yield torque Y was reached. The present tests show that if a specimen after creep under torque +Y is loaded in the reverse direction it begins to creep under torques much less than -Y. The report records details of this reduced stability under reversed loading and of its temporary removal by stress-relieving heat treatment. The practical implication is that stability of service components are liable to depend on their stress history during fabrication. (Author)
