An Investigation into the Relationship Between Precracked Charpy W/a and Plane Strain Fracture Toughness for High Strength Steels

The relationship between K sub IC, established by fracture mechanics procedures, and W/A, determined from precracked Charpy tests, has been examined. Both plain and side grooved Charpy specimens were used. Correlations have been established but these show some scatter. This prevents an accurate prediction of K sub IC from W/A values but a rough estimate can be obtained. (Author)
