FATIGUE STRENGTH OF FILLET WELDED TUBE TO PLATE JOINTS

Tests have been carried out under alternating circumferen¬tial bending, using a resonance method, to determine the fatigue strength of two types of fillet welded joints between tubes and flat plates and to define the optimum sizes of fillet weld to be used in such joints. The manual metal arc process was used except in one instance, when the MIG pro¬cess was also used. The joint configurations tested were:n1. Tube fillet welded directly to the plate.n2. Tube inset into a sleeve and fillet welded.
