DYNAMIC SNAP-THROUGH OF AN ELASTIC IMPERFECT SIMPLE SHALLOW TRUSS.

In order to understand the effect of geometrical imperfections on the dynamic buckling of shallow structures thoroughly, a study was made on the dynamic snap-through phenomena of an elastic weightless symmetric three-hinged shallow truss with a point-mass attached at the middle hinge. The applied load was considered to have an infinite duration. The members of the truss was assumed to be slightly curved so that the axial and lateral deflections would occur simultaneously. It was found that the critical load for snap-through decreases remarkably due to the existence of geometrical imperfections although the magnitudes of imperfections are infinitesimally small. The effect of the flexibility of the members on the critical load was also studied. (Author)
