The report concerns a review of the properties of ultrasound and an investigation of the feasibility of using pulsed ultrasound to detect the presence of in vivo tissue gas bubbles. The results indicate that pulsed ultrasound, as employed in the reflectoscope, is capable of detecting individual bubbles in the tissue continuum. The technique is not without shortcomings and some technical difficulties. These problems are discussed and recommendations made for their solution. Possible additional uses for this technique are indicated, when once it has been perfected. (Author)
