The work reported here is part of an investigation to determine the general requirements for strength and Weldability in precipitation hardened steels. These PRS steels have yield strengths similar to the structural C:Mn steels but with a much lower carbon content, thus giving the expectation of better Weldability and fracture toughness.nThe fracture toughness of heat affected zones (HAZ) of welds made in two controlled-rolled, niobium treated, low carbon manganese steels using a wide range of heat inputs has been examined. Conditions of impact and slow loading were studied using notched 1 in. square specimens.
