摘要

The article discusses factors which determine the amount of material removed from electrode surfaces during electric pulse discharges. Methods for controlling electrode material removal are delineated. The author concludes that the most significant factor determining energy transfer by an electrode during a pulse discharge is electron and ion bombardment. Under certain conditions exchange of energy between electrodes due to flares can be of significance. In selecting contact materials or material of the tool electrode for electric spark machining one should consider the character of the process of energy release and the thermophysical properties of the material in accordance with considerations expounded here. Formation of films with low thermal conductivity on the surface of tool electrode or contact can reduce their wear significantly. (Author)
