Determination of Particle Population Spectra from Water Tunnel Using Coulter Counter

Bubble nucleation in a liquid, either in a cavitation or boiling situation, depends primarily on the concentration and distribution of gas and vapor 'nuclei'. These provide the gas-liquid interfaces within the liquid which are necessary if bubble nucleation is to occur at the commonly observed pressures (or superheats). The paper reports upon a new technique applied to the measurement of 'nuclei' concentration and size distribution in a liquid. The method results in statistically valid size spectra for the total gas (or vapor) and solid particle population in a liquid. (Author)
