Study of Military Blood Banking and Crossmatching Using Blood Group Antigens Stored over Five Months in Acd-Adenine

The A and B erythrocyte antigens retain their reactivity beyond 42 days when stored in ACD-adenine at 4-6C. The Rho antigen is satisfactory for use in crossmatch procedures up to 42 days; however, Rh antigens decline in reactivity on longer storage under these conditions at 4-6C. The Kell antigen is suitable for crossmatch procedures after 42 days' storage in ACD-adenine and all red cell antigens tested from the integral donor tubing segments of ACD-adenine stored blood were satisfactory throughout 42 days' storage for crossmatch procedures.
